Farm bill passes the Senate

Some good news came our way yesterday as the U.S. Senate approved the 2018 Farm Bill with an 87-13 vote.  U.S. Senator John Cornyn & U.S. Senator Ted Cruz both voted in favor of the bill.  The U.S. House of Representatives are expected to make their final vote on the bill this week.  We know our fellow folks in Ag are hoping that the farm bill will be done before Christmas as many crop programs are funded just until the end of this year.

This farm bill is not only a safety net for farmers & ranchers, but also “ensures safe, affordable food supply for consumers and valuable conservation and research funding among other things”, as described by Texas Farm Bureau President Russell Boening.

This new bill provides victories for American farmers & ranchers, rural communities and consumers.

If the 2018 Farm Bill passes Congress, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, Sonny Perdue, will urge President Trump to sign the bill.
